APRIL SUMMARY

MY TOP 5 RECOMMENDATIONS FOR APRIL

  1. The Devil Wears Prada 2 (7.5)

  2. The Drama (7.5)

  3. The President’s Cake (7.5)

  4. Michael (7)

  5. Solo Mio (6.5)

MY VIEWS IN APRIL:

The Drama

7.5

I didn’t expect this movie. I didn’t expect to see it. I didn’t expect I would like it. I certainly didn’t expect the reveal. I didn’t expect they would take it there. I liked this movie but am still grappling with if they should have used “that” subject matter for the reveal.

Mr. Nobody Against Putin

6

Is what I expected in Russia just not to that degree. I don’t understand why this film won awards. From a filmmaking perspective it was scattered. From a documentary perspective it was hardly very deep or inspired. The content was just depressing.

The President’s Cake

7.5

Growing up in a war zone the loss of innocence in childhood comes far too early. They say never work with children or animals but debut director Hasan Hadi did both on his first try and made an amazing movie.

Solo Mio

6.5

A dialled back and more mature comedy from Kevin James. Makes for a sweet and uplifting night out at the movies.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy

6

I expected more but I am a seasoned horror freak. It takes a lot to impress me. A couple of gory bits made me wince but apart from that it was more creepy than scary.  Stop reimagining The Mummy and bring back Brendan Fraser already.

Exit 8

6.5

It’s another groundhog type movie but this time in a subway. It’s the kind of movie I need to rewatch a few times until I fully understand what is happening. Great filmmaking though!

Undertone

5.5

Not for me. I switched off watching this. Engagement zero. I feel as though this, along with Exit 8 would have been better seen and heard on the big screen.

Michael

7

An airbrushed version of The King Of Pop’s life, or half of it at least.

Critics hate it and I can see why. Some of Michael’s family has raised concerns about the truthfulness of it all which I agree with. Fans absolutely love it and I agree with them too. So I come somewhere in between everyone and give it a modest 7/10.

If there is one thing I took away from watching Michael, it’s that I should listen to more of his music.

The Devil Wears Prada 2

7.5

I liked it just as much as the first one. There was no escaping some beats from the first one but it never felt like a rehash or an unnecessary sequel.
