TOP PICKS FOR MAY
I gotta tell ya, I don’t have high expectations for the month of May. So it might be a good month for me to back off the cinema spending because June and July are stacked with films that need to be seen on the big screen.
There are 15 odd Cinema Release movies coming out in May, here are the ones I want to check out:

Oh and there is a Top Gun 40th Re-release coming out on the 13th. It’s one of those movies I have never seen and wanted to (I know, I know) so I am stoked my first time will be on the big screen.

This is at the top of my list even though I have huge reservations about it. The trailers have hardly been enticing. I really want it to be good and I am hoping Jon Favreau pulls it off.
I’m an odd Star Wars fan. I grew up with the originals and adore them but at the same time, rewatching them can ruin my memories of them. I don’t like the prequels. Don’t get me wrong, I have tried to see the good in them but there are only bits and pieces throughout that were ok. And this is where I differ from the majority, I loved The Last Jedi, so much so I wish Rian Johnson had made the whole sequel trilogy. So have at that lol.
The Mandalorian TV Series was awesome but should have ended when Luke rescued them from the Droids. Not sure why it needed a movie but here we are.
The trailers seem like it is geared towards children and I am thinking it probably will be. Us adults who love Star Wars often forget we love them so much because we saw them when we were kids. Nowadays we expect so much from any Star Wars content when really it isn’t made for us.

Tuner has Baby Driver vibes which is not a bad thing but it also has Dustin Hoffman in it so I am sold.

In The Grey
Been a long time since I have seen a new release Guy Ritchie film. And in it we have Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, Eiza Gonzalez and Rosamund Pike. With a cast like that, this is a heist movie I want to see.

Finding Emily
Angourie Rice is drawing me to this one. She was awesome in The Nice Guys and the Spider-man films. Looks like a different but fun take of a rom-com.

Obsession
This is a “careful what you wish for” type premise but I am still interested. I just realised the writer/director Curry Barker is a guy from these funny skits I have seen on YouTube. Makes me even more interested to see how he pulls this horror/thriller off. It’s getting good ratings and reviews for a horror.

Back Rooms
With solid names like Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve and Mark Duplass playing parts in this interesting looking horror, I am curious to say the least. It says it is part ‘found footage’ which I am not a fan of but bring it on.

I am a bit divided about this one to be honest. The trailer never really sold me but it looks different and I want it to surprise me.
