  3. Tuner (8.4)

  4. Christy (8.2)

  5. Finding Emily (8.1)

MY SUMMARY

I got to see 5 this month, these are my personal rankings and ratings:

  1. The Sheep Detectives (8)

  2. Backrooms (7.5)

  3. Mortal Kombat II (7.5)

  4. Tuner (7)

  5. The Mandalorian & Grogu (5)

THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU

Nope. I don’t want to bad mouth a movie so I just won’t say anything.

THE SHEEP DETECTIVES

That’s more like it. What a film! What a delight! This is what going to the movies is about.

MORTAL KOMBAT II

Didn’t expect to see it and certainly didn’t expect to like it this much. What a blast!

TUNER

Tuner was a great solid movie with outstanding performances from the whole cast, the stand outs being Leo Woodall and of course Dustin Hoffman.

BACKROOMS

I still can’t stop thinking about this movie, that’s how good it is. Great concept, great actors, great debut outing for director Kane Parsons. Can’t wait to see more of his work.

SUMMARY

I didn’t see any movies until the 22nd of this month. It’s been a rough month on a personal level. On the 6th I found out I have arthritis in my back (44yo), which means big lifestyle and career changes. Then, on the 28th, I lost my beloved Karla. A Mastiff/Labrador who was the world to me, and now that world has been upended.

Anyway, transitioning back to movies, May started out kinda lacklustre but ended with some really surprising and impressive films for me.

MY HIGHLIGHTS

The Sheep Detectives

  • This was an absolute gem of a film, I recommend it to everyone.

Backrooms

  • I still can’t stop thinking about this film and that’s part of the magic about it.

Mortal Kombat II

  • This one really surprised me with how much I enjoyed it.

Tuner

  • Good little story made great by Leo Woodall’s performance and Dustin Hoffman’s enamouring presence.

MY DOWNERS

The Mandalorian & Grogu

  • Just no. This was my Top Pick for the month and it ended up being the worst thing I saw.

In The Grey

  • Didn’t see due to poor ratings & reviews.

Mother Mary

  • Didn’t see due to poor ratings & reviews.

I didn’t get to see Obsession because it is not showing at local cinemas and don’t wanna drive the extra miles to see it. This is still on my watch list given the reviews and ratings. I watched Curry Barker’s Milk & Serial 1 hour film and liked that. I love his YouTube videos so It only makes sense I will like Obsession. If I can still see it at a cinema I will.

Finding Emily is the only other film I would still like to catch up on, but maybe when it comes to stream.
